TGIF: It's PARTY Day!!!

Today we have a ton of parties to go to and to put on for our kids, as it is our last day of school. Already we had to say goodbye to our wonderful spanish teacher, Mari Carmen yesterday, and it was VERY sad. It will be so much worse today I am sure, I will definitely miss all my students!!!

And I will miss my ILP friends even more...

It's a Peñafiel and Pizza Day!

Today we took a tour of the Peñafiel factory, which is located in Tehuacán. They make things like Dr. Pepper and Snapple drinks, and also supply many other drinks to Mexico, like mineral water. The Spaniards came here to Tehuacán to mine for gold, but all they found was mineral water, which drains off of a volcano, and takes five years to get from the peak to Peñafiel. Pretty neat.
Many of their flavored waters are created from the many kinds of cactuses, which they have a beautiful garden with lots of them to see.

For weeks now, we have been craving Dominoes pizza, so after our trip to the grocery store to get some weekend snacks, we picked up two pizzas for lunch. This was SUCH a good idea. We tried to be native and eat picante sauce on our pizza...genius.

This week I have been teaching kitchen to my classes, and we made nutella-graham cracker sandwiches today. Some of my kids were messier than others, including Rubin. He is nine years old, but somehow managed to get Nutella ALL over his face, hands, arms, sleeves and chest. What a goofball. These kids LOVE Nutella.

For dinner, my mom made me tostadas, which I was actually really afraid to eat because the last time I had legit Mexican food, I was sick. But they were super yummy!!

The green sauce on top is a salsa with avocado, which I am pretty sure my sisters in Ky would die for.
I just discovered that my sunglasses were broken from my backpack. Crud.

In about 5 hours, we are leaving to go to Cuetzalan for four day! We are SUPER duper excited to get there. I am only packing my backpack..haha..this should be interesting. Vamos!!

One More Day!!

Today I am trying to finish all my packing, which really wouldn't normally be hard for me, because I think I am a pretty good organizer..however, this one bag, 50 pound weight limit has got my mind a little boggled. My darn shoes and shampoo weigh too much, and I think I have taken things out and put them back in a zillion different times... I have also started making certain items less of a priority and putting them in a "don't think you can go to Mexico with me" pile... it includes one pair of tennis shoes, shaving cream, and could soon include three bottle of germ-ex (If you know me well, you would think I smoked something to say I would leave behind my germ-ex). So here is a look at the mess my room has become since packing...

..I just want it to be done already so I can leave my room in a clean cloud. That would be nice.
Now I am just waiting on the Fed-Ex Man to drop off my plane tickets for tomorrow and hanging out with Leila, my sister's pup.

Also, Justen wrote me a few rules to follow while I am in Mexico..which I thought were pretty funny.
  1. You have to eat elotes.
  2. Stay away from Tacos de Tripa and Tacos de Pansa.
  3. When people ask if you eat chile, tell them no.
  4. Don't leave the house after 7 and don't go anywhere alone.
  5. If you eat a lot of mole, you will get sick, and I know how much you hate puking.
You can tell he knows how picky I am about food... good thing I know how to say what I do like in spanish!
